Season ends in beautiful game against Chaparral In Tempe, the ladycats bent but didn't break against Chaparrals strong opening in the state playoff quarterfinal match. After several Chaparral corners, Sabino found their game and created two great chances that weren't finished before the half ended 0-0. In the second half, Sabino established their passing game in mid-field but Chaparral made it difficult to create scoring opportunities. Finally in the the 70th minute Chaparral made good on one of their many corners. The Ladycats made a fierce push to equalize the game but Chaparral held on for the 1-0 victory.
Ladysabercats climb first step of state playoffs with 1-0 victory over Glendale Apollo. Run of play left no doubt which team was the better side, but errant shots and good saves by the Appllo keeper kept the game a nail biter until Stephanie Molina poked in a loose ball in the 65th minute. Sabino travels to Tempe Sports Complex on Saturday to take on Chaparral.
CDO 2 - Sabino 0
After 14 Sabino shots and 11 saves by the Ironwood Ridge keeper only Brandy Carr was able to find the back of the net. Eight times in the first half Sabino got off shots on goal and IR had two, but no goals were scored. Dissapointed with the 0-0 score the Sabercats came out in the second half with determination and dominated play. Finally, eleven minutes into the half Brandy was fed a good through ball by Nicole Lewis and slipped the ball past the IR keeper. Eight minutes later the two combined on a similar play and Brandy's second score completed the scoring.
Opening region playoff game against Ironwood Ridge is cancelled due to SNOW
Finishing region play with victories over Ironwood Ridge, 1-0 and Marana, 3-0, Sabino heads into regional playoffs Monday as the 3rd place team.The ladycats will play Ironwood Ridge on Monday at 6:00, the winner plays CDO on Wednesday and the victor in that game plays Rincon on Friday.
Rincon sends Sabino into a full week of regional tournament play.In a game played mostly in the mid-field, Rincon finally found a crack in the Sabino defense in the 72nd minute. It was the only score of the game. The 1-0 loss now puts the pressure on Sabino to win region games next week to make it into the 3/4 regional tournament game on January 22nd.
ATTENTION: The Marana game has been changed to Wednesday, January 17.
Lady Sabercats, tired after two victoies over CDO in 24 hours fall in the Cup's semi-finals to Cibola 1-0. Saturday morning's rematch with CDO was practically a carbon copy of Friday's game, without the last minute goal. Sabino was noticably tired in the semi-final game against Cibola played that afternoon. Flat-footed the Sabercats allowed an early goal by Cibola. Although Cibola would have only one other good opportunity to score, Sabino wasn't able to finish many good chances. Region play resumes on Tuesday, January 9 at Pueblo and the region's hot team this year, Rincon plays at Sabino on Friday the 12th.
Sabino sweeps their group with victories over Ironwood Ridge (forfiet), Salpointe, 1-0 and CDO, 2-0. As the scoring sets the quarters, the sabercats will meet CDO again in the quarter-finals.
The Lady Sabercats return to play on December 27 against Ironwood Ridge in the Tucson Champion's Cup tournament. Their draw is in the tournament's group of death, which has them playing Salpointe on Thursday and CDO on Friday.
The team that beat Salpointe on Tuesday didn't get on the bus Friday for CDO. Although impressively responding to the games first goal by CDO with a score 15 seconds later and leading 2-1 at half, the lady sabercats were off their game and allowed CDO three goals in the second half. As last year Sabino opens regional play with a loss to CDO.
After 94 minutes of scoreless play Sabino netted a goal and held on to beat Salpointe. The Lancers had several impressive blasts from outside the penalty area but few were on frame. Four minutes into the second overtime Jessie Wolf got in behind the Salpointe defense and beat the Salpointe Keeper who had been playing very high all game.
Ladycats win at Mountain View. Netting only one of several opportunities in the first half, Sabino withstood a strong Mountain View effort in the second half. Brandy Carr finally gave Sabino some cushion with her second goal in the 61st minute. The Sabercats travel to 5A power Salpointe on Tuesday for their first test against a higher rank opponent.
Sabino opened their regular season with three home games: Flowing Wells, Sahuaro and Buena. After a hard fought 1-0 loss to Flowing Wells the lady sabercats bounced back to down Sahuaro 1-0 and overcome the fast, physical play of Buena posting a 3-1 win. Friday the girls have their first of three straight road games against Mountain View. Tuesday they travel to Salpointe and next Friday they open the region play at CDO.
Nogales trips up Sabino women in Brandon Bean OUt shooting the Apaches 13-2 the lady sabercats were unable to find the back of the net and one good strike on a corner kick put Nogales at the top of the pool. Sabino plays Flowing Wells at home on Tuesday, JV at 4:00 and Varsity at 6:00.
Lady Sabercats open the season with victories over Sunnyside and Palo Verde Sabino dominated play in both games with many oportunities to score but struggled to finish in the back of the net. Friday morning they conclude pool play at Salpointe against Nogale. A tie will move Sabino on to the quarterfinals Saturday.
